Project: Cup – Poetry and Pottery

November 4 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Project: Cup is a social engagement artwork that will be executed in partnership with the Charlotte Street Foundation and with support from ArtsKC, and Artaxis.org during the 2023-2024 academic year. Project: Cup works from the belief that the utilitarian, relational, and tactile nature of ceramics is part of its hidden superpower. The dishes in our cupboards, on our tables, and in our sinks have the ability to bring us into intimate daily contact with art that can comfort, challenge, amuse, and nourish us.

Project Cup is a series of interdisciplinary, public-facing events and engagements that explore the unique potential for ceramic cups to operate as tools for connection and nourishment on an individual and community level. The structure of the project is designed to highlight concepts and ideas present in the field of contemporary ceramics that are accessible to all (but not always shared); valuable beyond the studio; and enhanced through interdisciplinary interaction, organizational partnership, and community involvement.
